A Rare Fiber. A Remarkable Animal. Our Story.

My love for these remarkable animals began many years before Golden Amber Farm existed. I first fell in love with alpacas in the late 1990s here in the Pacific Northwest. Then, around 2010, my sister and brother-in-law discovered an animal I had never heard of before — the Paco-Vicuña.

Once I experienced these gentle animals and their extraordinary fiber for myself, I was completely captivated.

Where It Began

In 2014, I purchased my first Paco-Vicuña, Amber, and she became the beginning of Golden Amber Farm.

Amber was much more than the beginning of a herd. She was the beginning of a dream.  She deepened my appreciation for these gentle, remarkable animals and for the extraordinary fiber they produce.

A New Beginning

Several years later, when my sister decided to sell her farm, I made a life-changing decision of my own. I sold the home I had lived in for 25 years and purchased a farm in the beautiful wine country of Yamhill County, Oregon, where I could continue raising and caring for these very special animals.

Golden Amber Farm became more than a place to raise Paco-Vicuñas. It became a way to continue something I had grown to deeply love — caring for these rare animals and preserving them for the future.

Golden Amber Farm Today

Today, Golden Amber Farm is home to a small herd of Paco-Vicuñas, each with their own personality, coloring, and incredibly beautiful fiber.

We know our animals individually, and they are very much a part of our lives. Their calm dispositions, gentle humming and large expressive eyes make them incredibly easy to love.

Every fleece we offer can be traced back to an animal here on our farm, making each one as unique as the Paco-Vicuña who produced it.

And Then There Is Their Fiber.

Paco-Vicuña fiber is exceptionally fine, lightweight and luxurious, with some of our animals producing fiber in the range associated with the world's finest natural fibers.

Each animal produces only a limited amount of fiber each year, making every fleece something truly special.

Every fleece is naturally unique in color, character and texture — just like the Paco-Vicuña who produced it.

From Our Farm to Your Hands

We offer our Paco-Vicuña fiber in several forms — from whole fleece and hand-combed fiber to roving and finished yarn — allowing fiber artists to experience this remarkable natural fiber in whatever way inspires them.

Because our herd is small, everything we produce is naturally limited. Every fleece begins with an animal we know and care for here at Golden Amber Farm.

From our farm to your hands, we hope you enjoy their fiber as much as we enjoy the remarkable animals who produce it.
